Positioning
Positioning is not a slogan and it is not a niche statement. It is the answer to a question the buyer is already asking silently: of the options in front of me, why this one, and what am I giving up by choosing it.
The work
- 01
What we look at
The claim you are actually making, the alternatives a buyer weighs you against — including doing nothing — and whether the difference you believe in is one a buyer can detect before buying.
- 02
What changes
A stated position, the evidence that carries it, and the language that survives being repeated by someone who does not work for you.
- 03
How it is tested
Against the buyer's own words, not ours. If a position cannot be repeated back accurately by someone outside the business, it is not a position yet.
What this is not
- A brand exercise, or anything that begins with a colour palette.
- A claim we cannot source. If the evidence does not support the stronger word, we use the weaker one.
Where it sits
- Line
- ConsultingDiagnosis and design. Judgment, not production capacity.
- Usually inside
- FoundryThe core reformation engagement, after Signal has produced a baseline.
- Measured by
- PyreEvidence intake, opportunity scoring, a validation plan, a recorded decision.
What the rebuild changes
The same surface, built for the buyer you actually have.
A position stated as a claim about us.
A position stated as a difference the buyer can detect before buying.
Proof asserted, and discounted to zero by a sceptic.
Proof a sceptic can verify without having to ask us.
Differentiation the market cannot actually see.
Contrast against the alternatives really being weighed, including doing nothing.
Lens 02 · Position and authority
What you receive, and what each artefact is for.
This surface is rebuilt inside the position and authority lens of the method. These are the artefacts that come out of it — yours, written down, and legible to someone who was not in the room.
- Positioning Thesis
- The stated position, written so it survives being repeated by someone who does not work for you.
- Authority Architecture
- Where expertise is demonstrated rather than asserted, and in what order a buyer meets it.
- Proof Matrix
- Each claim mapped to the evidence that carries it, and the claims that have none.
- Claims Register
- What may be said, by whom, with what source behind it.
Depth varies by engagement. Which of these apply, and how far each is taken, is stated in the written proposal after the diagnosis.
Ask what this looks like for your business.
The diagnosis comes first, and it tells us whether this is even the part that is broken.
